week 502 ~ the parched monochrome of winter

leave a comment »

the parched monochrome of winter
fades as flowers punctuate the
landscape leaves unfurl even we
mere mortals take off a layer
of insulation without fur
like newly naked cats bust out
toes exposed in flip-flops some doubt
the soundness of our judgment but
it’s a spring fever frenzy shut
the window why when colors shout

week 496 ~ I am writing for a future

leave a comment »

I am writing for a future
a time when my voice will be heard
now it’s too bold so not a word
marks the world but that won’t deter
art music love all these infer
a presence as life is passing
by all the paint I can I fling
at the wall sonic graffiti
claws out through the work sets it free
to land somewhere where hopes can sing

week 495 ~ music is the only path out

leave a comment »

music is the only path out
sometimes when darkness is falling
vision muted future calling
for more than I can give without
melting into despair to doubt
the facts around me denial
tempts feigned blindness the trial
of waiting seems impossible
to navigate life should be full
of hope unfettered by guile

week 493 ~ the ignominy of aging

with 2 comments

the ignominy of aging
falls heavily in active mode
we fall squint our bodies implode
as decades pass no point raging
regret’s for naught we’re engaging
with falling apart nonfiction
trumps wisdom earned hope’s eviction
brings lessons sadly learned too late
damage done just courage and fate
left to assuage youth addiction

week 491 ~ winter’s thaw cracks hibernation

with 2 comments

winter’s thaw cracks hibernation
blubs gingerly poke their heads out
thoughts of color unfurl don’t shout
too early for jubilation
maintain some equivocation
we won’t get off this easily
to break the grip of cold will be
the work of weeks to come hold fast
dreams of warmer days will outlast
fickle March snow eventually

week 481 ~ deck the halls with boughs of holly

leave a comment »

deck the halls with boughs of holly
and toast the new year with wassail
in freezing cold come snow come hail
‘tis the season to be jolly
so we gladly take up folly
and for awhile forget our woes
embrace all Christmastide bestows
peace in our hearts and love to give
a host of memories to relive
to keep us warm ‘til winter goes

week 476 ~ magnets like words without meaning

leave a comment »

magnets like words without meaning
will either attract or repel
significant verbs missing tell
false stories obliquely leaning
as the hearer intervening
knocks them off course into a slot
unintended or perhaps not
for propaganda is wily
as it upends reality
and truth often misses its shot
