week 442 ~ light on a passing breeze

leave a comment »

“Et la mandoline jase
Parmi les frissons de brise.” – Paul Verlaine, Mandoline (1869)
(And the mandolin chatters on/ In the shivers of breeze)

light on a passing breeze
wafts a most joyous sound
charged with lost memories

intertwined histories
laughter notes run to ground
light on a passing breeze

mandolin melodies
some unknown some renowned
charged with lost memories

across the centuries
sweet tremolos resound
light on a passing breeze

play the tunes as you please
they’re waiting to be found
charged with lost memories

now it’s your turn so seize
them they’re yours this time ‘round
light on a passing breeze
charged with lost memories

week 436 ~ if this was just a dream

with 2 comments

if this was just a dream
and not now what is true
harder than it would seem

look back suppress the scream
decide what’s left to do
if this was just a dream

would it feel so extreme
we’re trying to push through
harder than it would seem

paddling slowly upstream
as damages accrue
if this was just a dream

a somnolescent gleam
no intrinsic value
harder that it would seem

to parse this mess midstream
decide what to pursue
if this was just a dream
harder than it would seem

week 419 ~ blues walkin’ like a woman

with 3 comments

me-419blues walkin’ like a woman
slowly down a crooked road
doin’ what’s right what she can

finishing what she began
eyes never blink her oats sowed
blues walkin’ like a woman

once upon a time she ran
staggered to carry the load
doin’ what’s right what she can

her mind stuffed with contraband
anger ready to explode
blues walkin’ like a woman

owning her path an urban
gypsy with dignity stowed
doin’ what’s right what she can

to ignore the proffered plan
to get back what she’s been owed
doin’ what’s right what she can
blues walkin’ like a woman

week 402 ~ the world that exists

with 2 comments

me.402the world that exists
in dark rooms behind
closed doors light persists
obscuring time mists
mask a troubled mind

the world that exists
covered in lies twists
assumptions hopes find
closed doors light persists

a voice still insists
the future’s not blind
the world that exists
is strong it resists
impatience maligned

closed doors light persists
bang on them with fists
balled your warrant signed
the world that exists
closed doors light persists

week 397 ~ what we can’t give them poised here

with 2 comments

me.397what we can’t give them poised here
at this moment of ending
the one thing that makes it clear

to choose from all we hold dear
what matters most partings bring
what we can’t give them poised here

the strength to go beyond fear
find something worth defending
the one thing that makes it clear

that all will be well to steer
their ship wisely wing on wing
what we can’t give them poised here

life’s true path don’t interfere
when they are flung resisting
the one thing that makes it clear

for someday it will appear
suddenly like love or spring
what we can’t give them poised here
the one thing that makes it clear

week 390 ~ don’t ask me what it takes

with 2 comments

me.391don’t ask me what it takes
if you’re not listening
communication breaks

remaking old mistakes
destroys a fragile thing
don’t ask me what it takes

to knit faith back up fakes
are worse than loss doubts spring
communication breaks

down words falter earthquakes
rock this tale past trying
don’t ask me what it takes

to circumvent heartaches
time’s disintegrating
communication breaks

faith pushes back the stakes
are high for denying
don’t ask me what it takes
communication breaks

week 368 ~ a dream outside my window

with 2 comments

me.368a dream outside my window
hovers in sunlight too bright
I squint try to see it though

odds are it isn’t mine slow
-ly as if drugged I turn right
a dream outside my window

absurd as it is I go
over hopes fading with night
I squint try to see it though

it slips away I won’t show
doubt for it may still alight
a dream outside my window

iridescent in limbo
blindly beautiful in flight
I squint try to see it though

wishing never makes things so
and obligations obscure sight
a dream outside my window
I squint try to see it though
