week 466 ~ when the world sounds like music
when the world sounds like music
take a deep breath then join in
no matter what song you pick
you’re alone stuck in traffic
driving home from where you’ve been
when the world sounds like music
savor the moment things click
it’s one time you’ll always win
no matter what song you pick
happiness has no yardstick
no set place it should begin
when the world sounds like music
it passes you must be quick
to actuate your break-in
no matter what song you pick
you know you’ll land in the thick
of a landscape wide open
when the world sounds like music
no matter what song you pick
week 395 ~ there is a melody deep in my soul
there is a melody deep in my soul
most days it sits quietly waiting for
the walls of busy to relax for more
than a breath so I can reboot to whole
it drums inside my brain flashes briefly
but then subsides stymied by a world that
steam rollers upstart inspiration flat
no time to spare for creativity
so I drift on hopeful that up ahead
I’ll trade in duty and nonessential
schedules sneak past the signal jammer full
to the top with tunes that will sing instead
of disappearing into rush hour
distracted dissolving losing power
week 381 ~ when time has run out for one more chapter
when time has run out for one more chapter
a final tune another slash of paint
across life’s canvas when we can’t defer
obligations or wishes with a faint
hope that there will always be tomorrow
what then how will it feel to reach the end
and slipping past human grasp or sorrow
enter a place unknown where we can’t bend
events to our will or count on love to
keep us safe or offer up forgiveness
for the times we stopped believing in who
we knew we could have been will someone bless
our memory then despite all we’ve done wrong
and smiling recollect our once brave song
week 330 ~ there is nothing left but going
there is nothing left but going
wrap up your memories and fly
back home to dreams that you know lie
waiting patiently for you bring
souvenirs that need no packing
a new way of looking at the
world a new song in your head free
for the listening set your course
by a different compass a source
of context to light all you’ll see
week 292 ~ a sonnet for baby S sound the horns
a sonnet for baby S sound the horns
so long coming so welcome in our hearts
see he grins and wriggles with a newborn’s
instinct for the right reaction then starts
to coo non-word words whose subtext imparts
a comfort being here with us so new
and yet exactly right worry departs
with winter’s snows and somehow we are through
to bluer skies and smiles yes crying too
for he firmly announces something’s wrong
until we figure out what we should do
but spring now fills our days with light and song
and we sing too breathing the scented air
for this sweet boy the answer to our prayer
my first Spenserian sonnet

week 290 ~ true as true
true as true
true as bread
me and you
in my head
true as bread
sing your song
in my head
I’ll hum ‘long
sing your song
clear as day
I’ll hum ‘long
find a way
clear as day
I’m right here
find a way
never fear
I’m right here
love’s true face
never fear
full of grace
love’s true face
true as true
full of grace
me and you
week 232 ~ we’re never going to know the ending
we’re never going to know the ending
of this dream not a play or a mistake
it’s a mystery of our own making
when the true prize somehow avoids taking
we try to learn from process though hearts break
we’re never going to know the ending
but we are curious as cats nothing
stops us we jump off the roof wide awake
it’s a mystery of our own making
for there must be someone getting this thing
right and hiding won’t exorcise the ache
we’re never going to know the ending
or where the truth is where the lies a thing
to tell us how long redemption will take
it’s a mystery of our own making
just to get through this life intact singing
the song we were born to and can’t forsake
we’re never going to know the ending
it’s a mystery of our own making
