week 492 ~ snow instead of flowers

with 2 comments

snow instead of flowers
though we wish cold away
spring is not yet ours
snow instead of flowers
winter’s waning hours
drag on another day
snow instead of flowers
though we wish cold away

week 487 ~ an incantation for spring

with one comment

an incantation for spring
wait in anticipation
‘til winter banished birds sing

teeter on faith desiring
days of warmth blue skies and sun
an incantation for spring

weeks turn to months lingering
cold distracts all hopes undone
‘til winter banished birds sing

songs that catch our ear ending
snow’s silent insulation
an incantation for spring

holding on ready to fling
windows wide still frustration
‘til winter banished birds sing

we see them in our dreams wing
their way north our fixation
an incantation for spring
‘til winter banished birds sing

week 486 ~ ice crusts the railing

with one comment

ice crusts the railing
cold winds blow fiercely
through the trees wailing
ice crusts the railing
feet slip arms flailing
winter misery
ice crusts the railing
cold winds blow fiercely

snowbound
peace falls
ice-crowned
snowbound

time’s calls
snowbound
peace falls

week 477 ~ cold falls like a curtain

leave a comment »

cold falls like a curtain
ending summer’s long reign
flowers fade spiders spin
cold falls like a curtain
shorter days ascertain
we’ll soon see snow again
cold falls like a curtain
ending summer’s long reign

week 332 ~ there is simply too much snow

with 2 comments

me.332there is simply too much snow
landscape bleached white without heed
to where all of it will go
there is simply too much snow
shovel plow but we all know
there’s no relief though we plead
there is simply too much snow
landscape bleached white without heed

week 230 ~ for everything comes after

with 6 comments

me.230

for everything comes after
in this place of sad goodbyes
there will be room for laughter

take solace from your past her
promises were never lies
for everything comes after

so climb aboard the raft cer-
tain grief bleeds through all disguise
there will be room for laughter

as you stop make a half turn
and look forward with new eyes
for everything comes after

where memories at last blur
and dreams materialize
there will be room for laughter

just hold your loved ones fast sure
you’re sailing toward blue skies
for everything comes after
there will be room for laughter

2.11.13It’s my Audubon moment– as I spot some early spring arrivals feasting on dried berries outside my window. But as I’m watching I realize the poor bush has its top branches buried in the drifted snow, and is now bowed down under that weight plus an ice topping courtesy of the rainy morning and a temperature drop. So I head out to the yard armed w/ my broom and gently free it and several of its neighbors trapped in unnaturally stooped positions. Later I’m glad to notice them springing back bit by bit to stand more upright. Getting ready for the next storm? I hope not, although that possibility looms, even as thousands of homes still wait for power to be restored from the last one. We still have weeks of winter left, so I’m glad to see there are plenty of berries remaining for my over-optimistic feathered friends.
