week 629 ~ as the seasons are all a kerfuffle
as the seasons are all a kerfuffle
we become tourists in our own backyards
umbrella drinks in November muffle
election confusion sending postcards
back to summer waiting for early snow
we keep gloves sneakers umbrellas ready
when the future says maybe where should we go
stark changes leave us bewildered heady
fumes of too late rend us dizzy stalled here
asking the path forward what we can do
in the face of disaster when we all fear
regretting decisions please tell us who
knows how this will all work out in the end
will nature undone still have time to mend
week 500 ~ old lady trees in their youthful dresses
old lady trees in their youthful dresses
pink and fluttery you can almost hear
them laughing at their brief finery as
errant blossoms blown loose scatter clear
the fences float high on a lazy breeze
before falling to carpet the sidewalk
once a year lovely we wait for the trees
to convince us that warmth is more than talk
that the exploding newness of color
has grabbed momentum that seasons have turned
pulling us outdoors where new life will stir
pushing forth green shoots whose names we’ve not learned
yet beyond the fierce cold of winter past
we stand taller breathe freer spring at last
week 283 ~ spring rain easy to recognize
spring rain easy to recognize
lighter hopeful humidity
melting the frozen earth slowly
as seasons change before our eyes
we are ready to realize
life returning green through barren
hard ground for we remember when
flowers bloomed and before we met
snowdrops crocus daffodils set
the stage for now to rewrite then
