Michael Gizzi died last Thursday; I just found out. He was a poet, a really interesting one who lived here in my town and taught for awhile at my university. His writing is terse and magical, with the feel of bebop saxophone playing late into the night. Here’s one of his poems. There’s also a really interesting webpage that has archived him reading one of his books, check it out–  Pennsound

XXIV. SAVED BY A LOON

It’s raining pitchforks
on a plate of balloons
sheet music wrinkles

and tunes
first the musicians
then alligators vamp

so long, Monsoon
I don’t know why
if the Yellow Kid

has the blues
his silver swan still carries
to the farthest potted palm

perhaps he doesn’t know he’s
going to lose trailing on the wings
of a well-appointed paint

some unseen shepherd’s pie
banjos on his shoes
noodles in the sky
