week 502 ~ the parched monochrome of winter
the parched monochrome of winter
fades as flowers punctuate the
landscape leaves unfurl even we
mere mortals take off a layer
of insulation without fur
like newly naked cats bust out
toes exposed in flip-flops some doubt
the soundness of our judgment but
it’s a spring fever frenzy shut
the window why when colors shout
week 500 ~ old lady trees in their youthful dresses
old lady trees in their youthful dresses
pink and fluttery you can almost hear
them laughing at their brief finery as
errant blossoms blown loose scatter clear
the fences float high on a lazy breeze
before falling to carpet the sidewalk
once a year lovely we wait for the trees
to convince us that warmth is more than talk
that the exploding newness of color
has grabbed momentum that seasons have turned
pulling us outdoors where new life will stir
pushing forth green shoots whose names we’ve not learned
yet beyond the fierce cold of winter past
we stand taller breathe freer spring at last
week 450 ~ there is a scent of green in the air
there is a scent of green in the air
breathe in and exhale leaving flowers
as you pass they bloom the weather’s fair
there is a scent of green in the air
a smile pauses to look lingers there
while joy transforms minutes to hours
there is a scent of green in the air
breathe in and exhale leaving flowers
week 296 ~ flowers grow rain falls
flowers grow rain falls
pausing we sit here
as mystery calls
our name as if all’s
fair and skies could clear
flowers grow rain falls
and each one enthralls
time so have no fear
as mystery calls
for the future sprawls
and dreams draw it near
flowers grow rain falls
our innocence stalls
each still unshed tear
as mystery calls
out beyond these walls
listen and you’ll hear
flowers grow rain falls
as mystery calls
week 287 ~ as weeping willows turn to green
as weeping willows turn to green
my heart leaps up embracing spring
colors and flowers seem to bring
a hopefulness I need to lean
on with the future unforeseen
I breathe in deeply and then turn
back to the tasks at hand I yearn
to break free sometimes yet structure
sustains me much as music’s pure
joy comes mixed with lessons to learn
week 283 ~ spring rain easy to recognize
spring rain easy to recognize
lighter hopeful humidity
melting the frozen earth slowly
as seasons change before our eyes
we are ready to realize
life returning green through barren
hard ground for we remember when
flowers bloomed and before we met
snowdrops crocus daffodils set
the stage for now to rewrite then
