week 631 ~ clipping branches

with 2 comments

clipping branches
and raking leaves
take no chances
clipping branches
time advances
as we all grieve
clipping branches
and raking leaves

week 622 ~ music and conversation

with 2 comments

music and conversation
friends’ laughter days at the beach
alone here in autumn’s sun
music and conversation
we’ve missed our lost summer’s done
its small pleasures out of reach
music and conversation
friends’ laughter days at the beach

week 621 ~ autumn tumbles down

with 2 comments

autumn tumbles down
as the world retreats
green fades into brown
autumn tumbles down
breaking summer’s crown
in time’s rutted streets
autumn tumbles down
as the world retreats

week 477 ~ cold falls like a curtain

leave a comment »

cold falls like a curtain
ending summer’s long reign
flowers fade spiders spin
cold falls like a curtain
shorter days ascertain
we’ll soon see snow again
cold falls like a curtain
ending summer’s long reign

week 367 ~ whatever is going wrong

with 2 comments

me.367whatever is going wrong
there will always be beauty
a falling leaf a new song
whatever is going wrong
can be held at bay as long
as you look around and see
whatever is going wrong
there will always be beauty

week 318 ~ orange yellow red brown

with 2 comments

me.318orange yellow red brown
rain on the rooftop
grey skies leaves drift down
orange yellow red brown
autumn’s tattered gown
transition’s backdrop
orange yellow red brown
rain on the rooftop

week 100 ~ I step into this dry brown phase

with 46 comments

I step into this dry brown phase
of the year with profound regret
one burst of color then forget
greens blues the flowers that amaze
me crumble I look past the glaze
of frost for inevitable
shadows drawn in indelible
ink that splay across the bare bones
of landscape as if this atones
for the nearness of winter’s pull

never is a long time and so
we cling to anything that lives
cherish each yellow leaf that gives
false hope for spring’s return but no
hand will stay death long so we go
forward into our kingdom of
loss as darkness beckons above
naked branches grasping what’s left
of light and autumn winds bereft
sing old incantations to love
