Hooray– I test negative! First order of business is to vote. Then on to a delightful socially distanced birthday celebration with D. (birthday this month too), E. and B. Sitting in the sun with friends, a prosecco toast, walking home for dinner with P. Life indeed is good.

week 267 ~ it’s hard to leave

with 2 comments

it’s hard to leave
but time to go
you’d best believe
it’s hard to leave
and yes I’ll grieve
loving them so
it’s hard to leave
but time to go

Hard to quarantine, waiting impatiently for results that will either free me or lock me down for 2 weeks.

And the leaves are putting on quite a show. This is their annual chance to outdo the flowers for attention. Today P & I wait in line for nearly 2 hours for my drive-through Covid test. Fingers crossed my trip doesn’t have any ill ramifications for me and all my loved ones.

Still a few flowers remain, peeking out in protected spots.

My trip is easy– and I have a whole plane row, both sides of the aisle, to myself. P. picks me up and there’s lovely flowers and a delicious dinner planned when we arrive home. Memories of my trip dance around in my head– happy images to buoy me through the coming travails of winter. I am so glad to have gone, and likewise glad to be safely home. Full of happiness and thankful for my blessings.

Such a birthday celebration! More dancing than the whole year gone by– led by video cats, Just Dance, a Talking Heads LP, and finally the family favorite Blues Brothers movie (the original, of course). A phone chat with my son, an afternoon visit with my daughter to the George Floyd memorial square– solemn and moving. Homemade cards and birthday cake, presents, joy abounding. I check in for tomorrow’s flight, and schedule a Covid test for my arrival home, fingers crossed that I have been able to make this trip without danger to those here or there. I pack up my things along with a large measure of love and happiness that I take with me, whatever lies ahead.

Seen on my walk with little S. today, a camouflaged bunny. I go for a ride with my son-in-law to buy some things, see some of the areas burned out in the riots, then hang out with the grandboys, well aware that my time with them is soon coming to an end.

week 266 ~ where there is love and family

with 4 comments

where there is love and family
there we can walk ahead with grace
acceptance with humility

though lacking in stability
progressing at a stumbling pace
where there is love and family

there’s no impossibility
or obstacle we cannot face
acceptance with humility

knowing we’ll never truly see
what lies ahead we find our place
where there is love and family

owning our culpability
granting ourselves some breathing space
acceptance with humility

as we lay down our burdens free
of tears for all we can’t replace
where there is love and family
acceptance with humility
