Celebrating a Year

Hydrangeas, prized by me for their fragrance that allows me to time travel back to my grandmother’s porch in eastern Canada, to be a girl of about 10, reading on the upholstered porch glider, propped up by pillows, without a single care and nothing on my to-do list. I remember it as a picture, a feeling, the breeze, the distant sounds of others at work or play. And for the moment I inhale, I am at peace.
