Simple pleasures. The day features a trip to the playground– where the boys and their friend disappear and I discover them all at the top of a nearby pine tree, yikes! I coax them down and on our walk home get a call from my daughter wondering if we’re up for the weekly kids’ cross-country race, part of a long tradition run by a friend’s family in a local park. The kids run first and then the serious runners and fitness enthusiasts run the adult long-distance relays. We have 3 “yes” votes so I make up a picnic supper and when the ‘rents arrive we go. Little S. makes it once around and D. goes twice and they both get ribbons and tootsie-pops for their efforts. We eat our supper chatting with friends on a lovely summer evening, watching the runners pass by, hearing stories about the funny things that have gone wrong at the event over the years. The fastest teams come in at around 40 minutes, the slowest take about twice as long. But a good time is had by all. We head home after dark.
Sounds like a busy day.
