Celebrating a Year

We can’t really hide away here forever, although there are any number of reasons to want to. And today there are rumblings among the troops that abandoned schedules call, food is running low, and it’s about time to say our farewells, pack up and head for home. I manage to bargain for another restorative day, and spend it trying to gather up all the serenity I can pack into my brain, hoping it will get me through the shock of reentry into the daily life I abandoned two weeks ago. I make all sorts of wild promises to myself– I’ll cancel cable, ignore the news, drop the heaviness that is the world today. But I know I won’t. At least I will bring back these memories, these sights and sounds– the lapping of the waves, the call of the birds, the splash of a jumping fish– to light my way forward. At least I know for certain that this place will be here, largely unchanged, the next time I venture north, and out of the hectic part of time.

  1. Oh…fill a jar with bits and pieces of where you are…label it Summer’s Joy…and place it where you can see it daily…until your return. :-)
