Celebrating a Year

My son N packs up this morning, after his month sojourn in the USA, and I drive him to the train to the airport and his flight back to Paris. So the family reunion officially ends its lovely but fleeting time as the focus of my thoughts and many of my days. And then, because what could be more cheerful than baseball, I stop on my way home to buy tickets for tonight’s local minor-league game. A delightful evening of hits, errors, sausage-and-pepper sandwiches, and draft beer, enjoyed with P, E-&-B, even though our team sadly snatches defeat from the jaws of victory, losing in the 9th inning. But before the game there is a swearing-in ceremony for newly minted American citizens right on the field, and afterwards there are fireworks. It’s truly an upbeat all-American day.
