Celebrating a Year

12-27-16It’s the last day of our visit and time for B & A to cash in their present of dinner out with free babysitting. It’s also the moment to tackle the 500-piece puzzle that appeared under the Christmas tree– a more daunting task than it had seemed. We build it in sections, hunting for bits of yellow brick or chevron siding, and manipulate the finished segments into formation. By time the middle generation returns we are on the home stretch and everyone excitedly gathers around the table completing the corners of sky, tree and flowers. Even the 2-year-old fits in some pieces by his “own self” so when it’s done we share the accomplishment. There is something to be said for preserving the simple amusements of the past even in this age of mesmerizing digital games.
