Helpless, blind, powerless, lost, confused, angry, dismayed, heartsick– I struggle to greet the day, to maintain a semblance of order, giving make-up quizzes, lecturing on Copland, Stravinsky, NWA, counseling those behind the curve, those concerned about future assignments, advising those planning their spring course load. It is all so normal, hanging in stark contrast to a world that is not. But if Obama can counsel Trump, Michelle can greet Ivanka, Hillary can walk her dog and take a smiling selfie with a desolate fan, I too can soldier on and do my bit to heal my world with dignity.
