Celebrating a Year

7.18.16Time waits for no man(dolinist) or guitarist either, and despite the unexpected events of yesterday, today is Italian dinner-gig day. We practice everything in the morning, tweak the arrangements a bit, gather all the needed sound reinforcement equipment, change into more formal wear, and head out. Of course there are snafus waiting as we set up at the venue, but they are minor and we resolve them pragmatically. We are ready to go when the guests begin to trickle in, and play through everything, some of the classics like “O Sole Mio” a couple of times. Some people pay attention, some don’t, food and drink are served (to them, not us), and the sound system allows us to be heard above the din of chatter and clatter not unlike an Italian movie soundtrack, which is our purpose this night. Finished, we head to an Italian restaurant to spend some of our earnings on a delicious meal. Mission accomplished.

  1. I have a young friend, Peter Smith, who wrote a song called “Maybe you could listen too!” Always reminds me of your gig…
