Celebrating a Year

3.11a.16Today we travel to Niteroi to see my friend Marcilio and perhaps to buy a new bandolim, a 10-string model. The exchange rate is advantageous right now so this seems like this might be a good trip to consider upgrading my Brazilian instrument, if the opportunity presents itself. We go by ferry and bus and spend an enjoyable afternoon at M’s apartment, chatting, listening to music. I am quite delighted by the bandolim, and take it home to play it against my current instrument to see if it 3.11.16is indeed the “one”. We take the bus home, and catch the sunset stalled in traffic on the huge bridge back to Rio. In the evening I am sitting out on our terrace changing strings when a sudden gust of wind blows the packet off the table, the heavier strings landing on the floor, the lighter ones disappearing over the edge and down the 5 stories, where they may bemuse someone who chances upon them.
