Celebrating a Year

3.10.16Today we visit Urca to pick up some things left at Miriam’s and linger for a bit in its old-fashioned charm. It is a beautiful spot, but we are glad to have changed neighborhoods to Botofogo, livelier and more conveniently located, and to have changed our single room with an ancient fan for a private 2-story air-conditioned apartment in an elevator-ed building with a doorman. Not missing the discomfort at all. Today we are seriously on the prowl for CDs and end up walking alot in Ipanema and Copacabana. Note olympic-themed  Cristo on the standing rings on graffiti passed today. And tonight we have what may well be the best dinner of our lives at the restaurant on the other side of 3.9a.16our place, Iraja gastro. We each order the 5 small-plate option, and get to choose an appetizer, a main course, and a dessert, with the other 2 to be the chef’s choices. While we wait we have caipirinhas– mine is tangerine with little hot peppers in it. And the food arrives in waves. Tiny bites of delicately seasoned tuna with aoli, incredible foi gras with orange sauce on toast squares, pasta with gorgonzola foam and cashews and mushrooms, duck in a wine reduction with a baked mango, a brilliantly orange fruity pudding from Baiha, cake of aipim (manioc) flour with coconut ice cream. We feel like we are on an episode of Top Chef. Quite the phenomenal evening meal.

  1. Sounds like you two have been moving on up to the “upper west-side” :-)
