Celebrating a Year

1.13.16We drive north for a visit with Mom, a few days before her birthday. She still recognizes me, to my great relief, and her sharp wit is evident as we talk and joke. But, as always, the lack of continuity, the unravelling strands that still tie us together, the impossibility that a thought can connect to what has just passed, to allow comparison, discussion, makes it hard to simply be together in the present moment and not miss context.
