Celebrating a Year

1.3.16My daughter flies home with her boys this afternoon, but A. stays on, waiting for the doctor’s OK that should come a few days hence. It has been a tough visit for us all in many ways, but we are also drawn closer by the strife that has interrupted our expected celebrations. The big brother has taken a step ahead, learning to support rather than wheedle, and the little one, about to turn 2, has carved a deeper notch in my heart, strengthened by mornings of being the first arms to lift him out of bed, trying somehow to protect him from the uncertainty that has troubled his small world. I will miss them, even as I catch up on lost sleep and projects set aside. The bonds of family are the sweetest ties in the world.

  1. Sounds like gold dust sprinkled among the sands of time.
