Celebrating a Year

11.7.15Today brings a long-awaited girls’ all-day outing, with E, B, and D. We head to the Peabody Essex Museum to see the first US viewing of Theo Jansen’s Strandbeests, and a new installation of Stickwork by Patrick Dougherty, partly pictured. Here’s a link to the museum’s video on building this installation version.  It’s wonderful to drink in the ingenuity of works by these two visionary sculptors, to wander through the grouping of Stickworks, to push one of the smaller Strandbeests across the gallery. As we are leaving a quote on a card in a nearby shop catches my eye. “Masquerading as a normal person day after day is exhausting.” It is wonderful to immerse ourselves in the works of those who don’t, and dream of the day when we won’t have to.
