Celebrating a Year

5.16.15Commencement today. I am not a big fan because, really, what musician would want to hear the banal “Pomp and Circumstance” played endlessly while hundreds of students in identical shapeless robes walk across a stage. The fun part is the march into the ceremony, on a grassy path flanked by students excited for their approaching big moment. It’s a  chance for last hugs and good wishes. And for one particular music major advisee, in response to my “I am so glad to see you here,” the response “I wouldn’t be without you!!” Probably true. My brother and his gf arrive in the afternoon and we grill out and play music around the backyard fire pit until late. Let’s get this summer show started!

  1. Ah…the event really is all about the students…faculty must endure for all the pain they created during those years of study by the students. :-)

    • Hah! Well I was glad all the ones I had this semester really were done. A couple of my colleagues were muttering “not so fast” as a few of the students accepted their diplomas.
