Celebrating a Year

1.31.14And so we walk ahead, leaving January behind, moving spring a bit closer, although February, despite what poets say, is always the cruelest month here in New England. I spend most of the morning mired in a computer muddle, determined to finish a seemingly endless task to get it out of the swirl in my brain, to clear some room for working on music. I am always happiest when facing a page of notes, solving their complexities, unlocking their emotions. And it’s been a bit hard, I will admit, to return from the freedom of my sabbatical to the tug and pull of obligation and inclination. It’s a contest that’s never truly won.

  1. Universities should develop a ‘decompression period’ after a sabbatical…maybe just having to attend only one faculty meeting during the first term back and no committee services at all. Hmm…think that could pass faculty senate? :-)
