Rain, at times torrential, keeps me indoors and working on an overdue article and soon-due music arrangements. I feel myself righting and settling into a new summer perspective as the no-longer-needed templates of the academic year slowly pack themselves up and fade into brain storage. I’m keeping goals simple for the moment and leave some behind as I move ahead, aiming for a languid saunter to replace the head-down arms-full dash to the finish line that has marked the past few months. In the late afternoon word comes from a friend that her new baby was born today, and her happiness spills over to lighten the skies a bit for us all.
