Celebrating a Year

12.20.12I am up early and I drive all day. Arrive at my mom’s in the late afternoon to find my brother and a friend finishing up loading furniture for her new place into a big borrowed truck. I pitch right in sorting books to go and stay and freeing up the bookcase that will move with her. All around me are piles of things taken out of or off other things, and the chaos doesn’t seem to be doing her any good. We send the boys off and then follow, the ~15 miles to her new place. She is leaving a condo in a retirement campus in “the middle of nowhere” as she always says, to move back to the town where we grew up, but now she’ll be in a studio apartment in a large brick home where she’ll have assistance– someone to make sure she takes her meds and eats her meals. She moves between glad, angry, sad at the move. But when we arrive I am so happy to see that my brother has set up her space beautifully, the house is lovely, and the staff seem cheerful and happy in their jobs. Home to the chaos and sleep.

  1. My so much moving these day for you…as I have said you’ve become quite good at it….hey…if you get tired of teaching during the summer…you could get a part-time job with one of those large moving companies…heaven knows you have experience. :-)

    • I’ll be glad to be done with it– hopefully at some point in January.
