Celebrating a Year

Happy birthday, USA! And what a celebration we put on. My day includes the oldest July 4th parade in the country, a backyard barbeque with friends near the parade route, and then in the evening an outdoor orchestra pops concert and fireworks nearer to home. The threatened rain pours down before the parade begins, and passes out to sea I guess and doesn’t stop the concert. Before the fireworks the full moon puts on a show of its own, rising to the strains of the “1812 Overture” and then disappearing into the cloud bank above. I love these community events that remind us we may all be running in our own hamster wheels, but there are lots of good folks and friendly faces nearby when we choose to look up.

  1. My… you make me want to get my 1912 Overture out and listen to it again…I have a version that used the bells in French cathedrals…yes it is old and on vinyl.:-)

    • Vinyl is the best, if you still have a turntable. I love the beginning, so moody.

I agree about community events. There is always a very special energy about them. Glad you had a fun day.
