Daylilies are one of the flowers that brighten July each summer, and they pop up everywhere, always eliciting a smile. And today smiles abound as I meet a new member of the extended family, my friend B’s grandson, less than a month old, on his first visit to his dad’s childhood home. Babies so small attract our unwavering focus– no need for entertainment, we are all happy to simply stare. And smile. Perhaps because somewhere deep in our pre-verbal brains we remember being there ourselves. Or simply because we recognize the enormous potential in the process of becoming real. Today also marks another beginning, as I talk to my recording engineer Joe about my new project planned for fall. Flowers, babies, music, pretty much a perfect day.
