Celebrating a Year

week 82 ~ it passed almost without notice

with 45 comments

it passed almost without notice
the most perfect day of my life
unremarked unlike days of strife
that yield a sonnet or two bliss
carries itself lightly you miss
its importance at first now I
try to find words to explain why
the memory of a child’s laughter
a lover’s smile persist after
the unheeded blink of an eye

  1. Yes, we do tend to miss the best moments, or take them for granted.

Here’s to bliss going a bit heaver than usual, and us drinking it in and never thirsting again.

  16. How lovely to see someone writing in the traditional forms; I’m still grappling with my first sestina…villanelles, rondeaux and pantoums are my favourites. Thank you for visiting my blog – I’m very new to this, so apologies for not reciprocating sooner!

    • The reflection in formal verse is a balm to my soul. I’ve written sonnets for years, but am jut exploring the rest. the decima– which this poem is– is my new favorite. Don’t know the pantoum– I’ll have to look it up!

  21. I really, really like this Mair. The way you have formatted the lines, the way they trickle along, adds to the meaning of the poem so well. The last line, unheeded blink of an eye, while it describes the content of what you’re doing, it also describes the poem itself, which gracefully went by in the unheeded blink of an eye. Great work here, well thought out.
