Tonight is my concert– how I love these moments on stage when the world belongs to me and everyone is here to enjoy the music that I work so hard on, that brings me such delight. My daughter, her husband, and their little boy are in the audience– an extra treat as they haven’t heard me play in years. The program includes 4 of my new hybrid Choro– the ones I just recorded w/ piano– and here I’m playing them w/ local musicians on guitar and bass. Even on short rehearsal our trio clicks and the music shines. I dedicate the last piece– Jacob do Bandolim’s Diabinho Maluco– to my grandson. He looks up surprised to hear his name, and chants the title in English, Crazy Little Devil, under his breath as we play. After the concert he announces to his mom “I think Marilynn should come home with us now”. We laugh to hear him call me by my proper name instead of Meema, his name for me. But here we are in the world of other people, my world, and he is getting a glimpse of who I am there. It makes me smile that he wants me back in his world. But that will have to wait a couple of days.

Oh…how sweet to be the wanted ” Meema” in his life.
