It is pouring, raining cats and dogs, the skies have opened up, everything is drenched. I’m think about our colloquial phrases as I avoid them to communicate in English with the Brazilian family/band here for the next few days. We veer back and forth between our languages, as 2 of the girls have better English than my Portuguese, but the parents don’t speak English at all. We manage to get off on time, I drop them w/ colleagues until my classes are taught, and find them again setting up sound for the afternoon concert. All goes wonderfully, and after dinner w/ students and faculty we stop on the way home to buy them cheery rainboots as all their shoes are now wet. We are up until after midnight talking about life, curiosity, and music.

Sounds fun even with the rain.
