It’s time for festa again in our Portuguese Catholic neighborhood, a weekend for anyone with ties built around those pillars to return to our small neighborhood and celebrate their heritage at the big church a couple of blocks away. And so it is that my mandolin ensemble sits on my back porch in the humid heat that is inevitably August in New England, planning our year to the strains of sound-check for the vaguely ethnic marching band music that marks the festivities. The big parade is tomorrow, but today the bands have already begun, and I fall asleep to the over-amplified sounds of a good time being had by all.

” Over-amplified sounds of a good time being had by all”…oh this made me chuckle.
